Abstract

The scientific article describes the experience of Russian universities in national and international rankings, analyzed the conceptual apparatus of this problem, considers the experts opinions. The aim was to research the basics and identify the main challenges higher positions in international universities in the country as a basis for improving their competitiveness in the global education market. The authors considered the complexity and ambiguity of the results of different ratings due to multi-directional target audience are the most important and famous of the world rankings. Based on the analysis of national practice of rating the authors come to a conclusion about the need to consider in addition to the final results of additional official statistics, that about the higher education system in our country is monitoring conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. In addition, the scientific article formulates the most important famous national rankings.
