Abstract

The article considers intense grazing-induced changes in nitrogen and carbon contents in mountain meadow soils of the alpine belt the Аragatsmountain massifs. The studied sites were one control and a few testing pasture plots at a height 3000-3250 m a.s.l. on the southern slope of Mount Aragats. The research has indicated that a manmade impact on pastures connected with intense grazing has brought to changes in physico-chemical properties of soils and the quality of humic content. At the same time transformation occurs of nitrogen-containing substances namely nitrogen transformation from total to mobile forms. The obtained results have indicated that intense grazing leads to soil compaction, deterioration of air water balance and disturbance of nutrient regime of mountain meadow soils of the studied region. The obtained research outcomes indicate that all the notes factors bring to a decrease of organic component of soil and destruction of water resistant aggregates. These results should be considered as an essential basis when assessing natural and resource potential of mountain ecosystems.
