The object of research is rural tourism. The authors carried out a systematic analysis of the known results of the study of rural tourism, identified its main characteristics and typology. The main factor in the popularity of rural types of recreation is the culinary component. The authors discovered the importance of farmers' markets, which have evolved from social gatherings to tourist attractions. The current state of agricultural tourism has been studied. The study is based on methods of analysis, comparison of information. The work adopted an inductive approach using search data. Scientific works of both domestic and foreign scientists were used. Results. One of the main goals of state policy is to create conditions for the sustainable development of rural areas, including the preservation of empty settlements. The active development of rural tourism contributes to the diversification of the economy, the emergence of jobs, an increase in the income of the population, and, in general, an improvement in the economic situation of the region. In the tourist market today there are many different types of rural recreation, including agricultural. But a rather unusual direction for the average consumer is an agro-tour with an emphasis on the culinary component. Farmer's markets with national dishes of the region can become attractions of such tours. The trend of active growth of the internal flow, especially tours to the countryside, will continue in the current conditions for quite a long time. The results of the study can be used by regional authorities in the formation of a management system for the development of tourism in the territory. Conclusion. In the context of an increasingly complicated international situation, tougher sanctions, and a decrease in the purchasing power of the population, the tourism market in Russia is noticeably transforming: the need to promote domestic types of recreation, including agricultural, has grown. The development of food clusters in rural areas will bring economic benefits to farmers through the formation of culinary enterprises, the creation of jobs and additional income opportunities due to the development of local trade.
