Analysis of the Demographic Situation of the Ppopulation in Great Baku

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze the demographic indicators of the population in Great Baku (population, natural increase, birth rate, death rate, marriages, divorces, migration) for the period of 1979-2021 compared to the indicators of the general city population, it is to examine factors that shape them and investigate current problems. Materials and methods. To achieve this purpose, comparative analysis, system-structural, historical-geographical analysis and statistical research methods were used. The statistical basis of the work is the data of the State Statistics Committee: «Demographic indicators of Azerbaijan», «Population of Azerbaijan», «Regions of Azerbaijan» and materials of the population census. To carry out the research, the statistical data of both the general population of the city and Baku itself were systematized, structured and analyzed in a comparative manner. Results and discussion. It was determined that the high socio-economic development of the Baku as a capital city, the position of the capital and other factors led to the accumulation of demographic potential here. Especially during the years of independence, the population growth rate in the suburbs (mainly due to migration) was higher than in the city center. In the analyzed period (1979-2021), the relative coefficient of demographic indicators in Great Baku differed slightly from the indicators for the general population of the city, and in some years even exceeded it. Сonclusion. As a result of the study of demographic processes in Great Baku, it has been established that the indicators of natural increase, birth rate and marriage rate have recently been tending to a gradual decrease, while the opposite situation has been recorded in terms of mortality and divorce rates.
