Abstract

The purpose is to identify the spatial and temporal features of the formation of the Armenian diaspora in the Russian Federation. Materials and methods. The materials of the population censuses of Russia for the period of 1897-2021, as well as various geodemographic indicators of the Armenian population of Russia are analyzed. On their basis the cartographic materials are constructed. Based on a comparative analysis of information from various departments, the characteristics of the Armenian diaspora in Russia are given. Results and discussion. Armenian settlements on the territory of Russia appeared in the XVI-XVIII centuries and soon began to settle throughout the country. During the centuries-old history of the presence of Armenians on the territory of Russia, both the nature and the area of settlement and the dynamics of the number have changed. The modern Armenian diaspora is well institutionalized, quite numerous, although it has some tendency to decrease in number. The majority of the Armenian diaspora is concentrated in the European part of Russia, in the Southern and Central Federal Districts, the Republic of Crimea and are predominantly urban residents.Conclusions. The Armenian diaspora of Russia belongs to the old diaspora. In order to trace the dynamics of its development on the territory of Russia, three stages can be distinguished: 1) the first stage falls on the period of the XVI- XVII centuries, considered the beginning of the formation of the diaspora, 2) the second stage of the XVIII-XIX centuries, characterized by an increase in the number and expansion of the area of settlement, 3) XX-XXI centuries, which is largely a diaspora-forming period.
