Event Tourism: Experience of the Murmansk Region

Abstract

The purpose is to analyze event events from the point of view of their prospects for the development of the tourism industry and the economic well-being of the Arctic region (using the example of the Murmansk region). Materials and methods. The database has been compiled of events planned for 2024 in the Murmansk region, posted on the «51 Events» website using manual web scraping. The data obtained were summarized and analyzed using statistical methods, supplemented with data from the official media of the Murmansk region. At the final stage, a text analysis of the event names was carried out. Results and discussion. As a result of the analysis, the following were identified: firstly, groups of events related to event tourism, secondly, the distribution of events from a geographical point of view and by the date of their holding, thirdly, the thematic content of the events was determined. The value and novelty of the results obtained lie in the search for promising directions for the development of the tourism industry and the economic well-being of the Arctic region (using the example of the Murmansk region).Conclusions. The key features of the practice of organizing events in the region are that local governments are actively realizing the tourism potential of the Murmansk region; events in the region act as a catalyst for the development of do- mestic tourism, promoting the economic development of small settlements, and also serve to attract new personnel to the region. The conclusions can be scaled to other regions of the Russian Federation, taking into account local characteristics.
