Abstract

The purpose is to carry out a comparative analysis of the territorial structure of the economy and the factors of its formation in the Republic of Tyva and the Republic of Khakassia in order to identify the key determinants of contrasting models of spatial organization. Materials and methods. The theoretical basis of the study was the concept of territorial organization of the economy by P. Ya. Baklanov, in particular, the provisions on the hierarchy of spatial systems and the linear-node structuring of economic space. The empirical base consisted of data from the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) for 2000–2023, as well as strategic territorial planning documents of both constituent entities. The main method was comparative economic-geographical analysis, supplemented by statistical data processing and a systems approach. Results and discussion. Key differences in territorial structure were identified: Tyva is characterized by a fragmented primary structure with a predominance of the extractive sector and high dependence on the federal budget, while Khakassia represents an established hierarchical linear-a hub system with diversified economy. It has been established that the limiting factors for development of Tyva are transport isolation, energy scarcity and historically existing infrastructural peripherality. There has been an active adaptation through the activation of traditional ethno-economic practices, in particular animal husbandry, which acts as a socio-economic stabilizer. Conclusions. The results confirm the hypothesis of the formation in the Tyva Republic of a specific model of adaptive resilience, based on the dual nature of the economy, combining elements of market and traditional attitudes. The further development of Tyva requires taking into account this dualism and seeking integration models that use its unique adaptive potential, while the strategy of Khakassia should be aimed at strengthening the existing diversified structure and its transport-logistic advantages.
