Abstract

The artic le is de vo ted to the iss ue o f relief fo rmatio n in the pe riglac ial zo ne of the ancient glac iers of the Caucasus. The evolution of the Malaya Machara gorge is considered in the framework of D. Kh. Bretz's geomorphological theory of scabland. During the study of the basin of Assir, the traces of catastrophic floods are established, on the basis of which the fluvioglacial events of past geological epochs are reconstructed.
