Abstract

Data on population density (person/km2) and livestock (animals/km2), forest cover and anthropogenic coefficient of the catchment area, as well as discharge of sewage into rivers were used to assess the ecological condition of river basins. It was revealed that 28,6 % of the investigated rivers are subject to moderate degree of anthropogenic pressure, and 71,4 % significant degree. According to the index of pollution, river waters are mainly classified as moderately polluted and polluted (Class III and IV).
