С.К. Горелов: его учение о полигенетических поверхностях выравнивания, активности Сталинградских разломов и влиянии на формирование геоморфологической школы Волгоградского региона

Abstract

The article reflects the important biographical events and the main directions of scientific activity of Doctor of Geographical Sciences, S.K. Gorelov, one of the leading geomorphologists of our country. A renowned scholar, he has devoted his life to the development of the doctrine of polygenetic geomorphologic systems alignment surfaces. In the beginning of his career he was also active in the scientific testing of the morphological analysis. The key ground in his research was the area of the Lower Volga region and Middle Don, where he confirmed how the ideas of the leading geomorphologists (academician I.P. Gerasimov, Yu.A. Meshcheryakov) and S.K. Gorelov. The article gives a brief analysis of major works and developments of S.K. Gorelov (monographs, scientific reports, Paleogeomorphology Atlas of the USSR), emphasizes its role in evaluation of land for the construction of the Volga hydroelectric power station, the proof of passivity of the Volga faults, the justification of the polygenetic approach to the formation of the tiered topography of the Volgograd and Saratov dislocations. Special appreciation was given to its role in the establishment of the Volgograd geomorphological school and its successful development.
