Typification of mining and industrial complexes in the Central Black Earth Economic Region according to their impact on the ecological well-being of adjacent territories

Introduction: mining enterprises are one of the leading human activities that have a negative impact on the environmental well-being of the surrounding areas. The types of impact depend on the nature of the raw materials being extracted, the technologies used, and the size of the area being occupied. The Central Black Earth Economic Region (CBER) is characterized by a high population density due to its favorable natural conditions. The active mining activities within the region create various levels of environmental hazards. The purpose of this work is to typify the mining and industrial complexes of the Central Black Earth Region according to their impact on the environmental well-being of the surrounding areas.
Methodology: to achieve the set goal, theoretical methods of information processing (analysis and synthesis) were used, as well as methods of geoinformation processing of data with the development of map schemes, and the method of expert assessments.
Results and Discussion: the conceptual apparatus of typification of mining and industrial complexes according to the degree of their impact on the environmental safety of the CCHER regions, depending on the specifics of raw materials, mining technologies, and the area of the mining and processing complex, allowed for the differentiation of the studied territory according to the increasing level of environmental problems in the following order: Tambov Mining and Processing Complex < Lipetsk Mining and Processing Complex < Voronezh Mining and Processing Complex < Kursk Mining and Processing Complex < Belgorod Mining and Processing Complex. Conclusions: The lowest levels of environmental hazard from mining activities are formed in the Tambov Region, and the highest levels are formed in the mining complexes of the Belgorod Region.
