POLITICAL TRANSIT IN ROMANIA AND BULGARIA: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE FACTORS OF DEMOCRATIZATION

Тhe article provides a comparative analysis of political transit in Bulgaria and Romania. Objective factors (economic development, foreign policy influence, type of authoritarian regime) led to a comprehensive crisis in these countries. But the way out of this crisis depended on a subjective factor, that is, on the actions and strategies of the political elite and the masses. In Bulgaria, the political elite itself led the political transit and compromised with the opposition. Therefore, the political transit took place peacefully in this country. In Roma nia, the opposite is true. Nicolae Ceausescu resisted any changes and harshly suppressed any discontent. In this country, political transit followed a bloody scenario, which eventually led to the death of Nicolae Ceausescu himself.
