Abstract

Тhe article analyzes the fundamental transformation of the institution of friendship under the influence of global digitalization. Through a synthesis of classical sociological theory and contemporary approaches, it identifies and conceptualizes three key dimensions of this transformation: virtualization, performative nature, and commodification. The empirical foundation is provided by data from a nationwide survey conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) in September 2024.
