The article is devoted to the study of the relationship between legal doctrine and professional thinking of lawyers within the framework of the Western tradition of law. The paper substantiates the thesis that one of the leading functions of legal doctrine is the function of standardizing the professional thinking of lawyers. The article consists of four parts. The first defines the doctrinal nature of Romano-Germanic law. In the second, the concept is revealed and the “levels” of legal thinking are briefly characterized. The third part explains the process of regulation of professional thinking, defines its nature, means, methods and results. The fourth part outlines the limits of the doctrinal regulation of lawyers' thinking.
