In this article, the author examines the essence of the sentence as a legal document, the logical-compositional and substantive features of which are strictly regulated by law. At the same time, the sentence contains an analytical component in the form of reasons of the court's conclusions, what allows us to consider it as an argumentative text. The combination of the formalization of the sentence with its argumentation, according to the author, is one of the main features of the sentence as a specific legal text. The author asks the question about the place of legal reasoning in the structure of the sentence. It is argued that in the text of the sentence, argumentation is the main means of making sense.
