It is deals with issues of the content of the definition “investment activity” and its features. It analyzes academic literature and investment legislation on this sphere, investigates, describes different approaches to the definition “investment activity”. As a result of this research formulate special definition of the investment activity as a process of investing in order to make a profit or achieve another beneficial effect. The investment activity features could be divided into two groups. The first group consists of such characteristic, which are typical for any economic activity (independence, risky nature). The second group include a special (qualifying) feature that allows it to be distinguished from other types of activity. This feature is the targeted nature (the direction of investments to make a profit or achieve another beneficial effect) of investment activity.
