This paper explores the phenomenon of political leadership and the leader’s factor in political processes, both historically and contemporaneously. It examines the types of political leaders, shaped by their personal attributes and the distinctive historical context of their actions. The focus is directed towards the transitive function of the leader, which is designed to ensure the transition of society from the past to the future. The author underscores the value of collective leadership as a safety net to prevent the ‘triumph of will’, i.e. uncontrolled and irresponsible actions of politicians in power.
