Evolution of criminal liability for violation of sanitary-epidemiological rules in the Russian Federation

This article provides a comprehensive retrospective analysis of the development and evolution of criminal liability for violation of sanitary and epidemiological regulations in Russia. It examines key stages in the development of legislation, from early sources of Russian law and decrees of Peter the Great to regulations of the 19th and 20th centuries, Soviet legislation, and the current version of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Particular attention is paid to changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which allows us to identify trends for further improvement of legal regulation.
