Standards of human rights protection developed in the practice of the European committee for the prevention of torture: peculiarities of the status and legal meaning

the article is devoted to the specifics of the activities of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture acting within the framework of the human right mechanism of the Council of Europe. Conditions contributing to the development of international standards are analyzed, as well as the practical measures on the protection of persons, deprived of their liberty, from torture and other forms of cruel treatment. The issue of the status of these standards and its meaning for national legal systems is raised.
