Abstract

When teaching Russian as a foreign language (RFL), the priority task is to develop students' linguacultural competence necessary for effective intercultural communication with native speakers. Teaching foreign students involves familiarization with the cultural context, which allows establishing a connection between superficial language structures and their deep meaning. Phraseological units and proverbs, in addition to representing reality and expressing axiological attitudes of native speakers towards various parts of the world, perform the function of transgenerational transmission of cultural and national attitudes and traditions. The subject of this study is the role of intercultural communication in understanding Russian phraseological units and proverbs by Iranian students. The object of the study is phraseological units and proverbs of the Russian and Persian languages. The purpose of this scientific article was to describe the universal and cultural-national features of the two linguacultural societies, to show the similarities and differences in the linguistic heritage of the people, reflected in proverbs and phraseological units. The research method is comparative-analytical, allowing to reveal similarities and differences in perception and interpretation of culturally specific language units. The result of this research is that different components and words are used in different language cultures to convey common concepts, which will be very interesting for language learners during their training and adaptation. As part of the study of intercultural communication in the context of translation studies of Iranian students, it was found that in order to ensure adequate translation, it is necessary to correctly decode both verbal and non-verbal intercultural symbols. The scientific novelty of this work consists in the fact that for the first time the research materials were analyzed, compared and systematized, and universal and cultural-national similarities and differences in the proverbial fund of Russian and Persian languages were also considered.
