The article analyzes the similarities and differences in the meanings of terms used in the French school of translation, called the Interpretive Theory of Translation (ITP), and in the conception of linguistic translation studies developed by Russian scientists. The analysis is carried out on the basis of the French terms presented in the works of ITP theorists and glossaries contained in the monographs by M. Lederer and T. Bodrova-Gozhenmos. The method of comparative analysis of the definitions of French terms with Russian ones noted in the explanatory translation dictionary is used. As a result of the analysis, similarities and differences in the meanings of the basic terms of the theory of translation are revealed and their classification is proposed, including three types of correspondences: 1) terms lacunized in the linguistic theory of translation; 2) terms partially lacunized in the linguistic theory of translation; 3) terms lacunized in the ITP. The results obtained may be of theoretical importance for the further development of the problems of unification and normalization of the terminological system of modern translation studies. In the applied aspect, they can be useful for the terminography and didactics of translation: they can form the basis for the creation of a French-Russian dictionary of translation terms, which will harmonize the vocabulary of specialists in the field of translation theory and avoid errors associated with incorrect use of terminology.
