Classification of UN peacekeeping operations terms

The article analyzes the special vocabulary of the UN peacekeeping activities, which unites both military and civilian specialists from different countries, for whom English is the language of professional communication. The object of the research is the terms that make up the language for the special purposes of the UN peacekeeping. The subject is the terminological field in which these lexical units are used. The main research methods in this article were the analysis of lexicographic definitions and semantic analysis. The main materials of the study were literature for the training of UN military observers, as well as guidance documents and other normative acts regulating the activities of the Organization during peacekeeping operations. Based on the analysis, the main groups of terms that make up the language for the special purposes of UN peacekeeping operations were identified. The issues of the functioning of the basic terms of the UN peacekeeping activities are considered. It also covers the use of terms in everyday activities, emergency situations, as well as acronyms and abbreviations during UN peacekeeping operations. The systematization of the terms of the language for the special purposes of the UN peacekeeping is carried out. The structural scheme of the UN peacekeeping operations terminological system is presented. The article concludes that the terminology system of UN peacekeeping operations is a set of basic and working terms used both in everyday activities and for solving specialized tasks that ensure the functioning and fulfillment of the tasks of the UN Missions.
