Importance: spatial development of agri-food markets, due to significant socio-economic differentiation of the country’s territory, which is an important reserve for improving the satisfaction of the population’s food needs and increasing the efficiency of interregional commodity exchange. Purpose: сonducting an assessment of the spatial development of the vegetable market in the Central Federal District with an emphasis on the region. Research design: spatial development of the vegetable market in the Central Federal District, aimed at reducing differentiation in consumption between individual territories (regions) by expanding the spatial boundaries of high-production market zones and increasing the connectivity of elements of the market space, will help improve the food supply of the population with vegetables. Results: the authors analyzed the current state of the vegetable market in the Central Federal District (and by region) according to the main elements (demand and supply), and identified positive and negative trends in production and consumption. The district’s own capabilities in ensuring food security were assessed based on calculating the level of self-sufficiency and the degree of saturation. The indicators characterizing interregional commodity transactions (import-export, balance) have been studied. Activities for the development of the vegetable market in the regions of the Central Federal District are summarized.
