Regional spatial development in the context of digitalization

Abstract

Importance: influence of digitalization on the process of spatial development of the region and formation of its spatial structure. Purpose: actualization of theoretical ideas about the spatial development of the region due to the increasing role of digital technologies, as well as the formation of ideas about the digital space of the region and its structure. Research design: theoretical analysis of scientific works of domestic and foreign scientists in the field of spatial development, digital technologies and digitalization is carried out. The accumulated experience is summarized on the basis of content analysis using a systematic approach. The information base of the study is data from government statistics agencies, analytical agencies, research centers, etc. Results: concept of «spatial development» has been clarified. It has been established that digital technologies are becoming an important tool for spatial development. Their use leads to a decrease in the need for physical movement, blurring of geographical boundaries of activity, formation of a multipolar system of socio-economic relations, reduction of points of full-time provision of services, transfer of administrative and managerial functions to a remote format. A model of the spatial structure of the region has been developed, which is revealed through a combination of natural, socio-economic and digital space. An idea of the digital space of the region has been formed and its place and structural elements have been determined. The results obtained expand the understanding of the spatial development of the region and its spatial structure, filling the gap that has arisen as a result of digitalization.
