Modern Analytical Methods and Scientific Approaches to Detecting Counterfeit Alcoholic Beverages (review)

The problem of counterfeit alcoholic beverages is a significant risk factor for consumer health and poses a threat to the economic stability of the market. High demand, combined with increased competition between manufacturers, is leading to an increase in the number of cases of counterfeit products being manufactured and distributed. The study examines the relevant problem of identifying counterfeit alcoholic beverages using modern instrumental methods of analysis. As part of the research conducted, modern methods and scientific approaches used to identify counterfeits in alcoholic beverages were studied, analyzed, and systematized. Special attention was paid to scientifically based approaches and analytical methods of quality control at all stages of the production process. Modern technologies and approaches for the organization of instrumental control for the quality control and detection of counterfeits were described. Traditional methods and modern developments of the study of chemical composition of alcoholic beverages using chromatographic, optical, spectral, and sensory methods of chemical analysis were discussed. Gas chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and chromatograph mass spectrometry were identified as the most widely used methods for quality control and safety of alcoholic beverages. The importance of an integrated approach for the determination of the chemical composition of alcoholic beverages based on a combination of gas chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, capillary electrophoresis, and digital technologies was emphasized. The leading role of State Standards and Technical Conditions which define the basic requirements for manufactured products and the technological parameters of the production process in quality and safety control was revealed. It has been shown that the use of modern analytical methods has a decisive role in the fight against counterfeit alcoholic beverages. The integration of advanced technological solutions into the analytical practices of manufacturing enterprises and control organizations was driven by the need to ensure high quality of manufactured products. Promising directions for further research were identified.
