Features of negative planar chromatography of polystyrenes
Keywords:
negative planar chromatogpaphy, polystyrene standards, mesoporous silica.Abstract
The liquid chromatography process of polystyrene standards separation has been studied by negative
planar chromatography (NPC) in comparison with column chromatography at 298 K. The commercial
samples of Silica gel KSK, mesoporous Silica S80 and porous borosilicate Glass were used as sorbents. As
the solvent (eluent) tetrahydrofurane, toluene, mixture of benzene and cyclohexane were served.
The experiment sho ws that the polymer macromolecules are moving faster then the eluent
molecules. Parameter
f R takes a value greater than 1 ( f R > 1) in the case of negative planar chromatography
(NPC). The method of the measurement for the values f R > 1 has been suggested. The comparison of the
calculated retention characteristics k' and p K demonstrated a good accordance of its meanings between
NPC and column chromatography methods of separation of narrow fractions of polystyrenes using
tetrahydrofuran as an eluent and nanoporous silicas – Silica gel KSK, Silochrom S80 and pore-glass MPS35
as a chromatographic packing material
