This article presents the theoretical foundations for the study of human emotions, shows the relationship between emotions, language, thinking and culture. One of the important means of expressing emotions among other emotive units of the language are phraseological units. A comparative analysis of the ways of verbalizing the emotion Freude/joy in german and russian languages using phraseological units in lexicography is carried out, highlighted are the deep mechanisms underlying the phraseological nomination of emotions in the compared languages, as well as the ways of objectification and linguistic fixation of transmitted culturally significant information, characteristic for each individual linguoculture within the ethnos value system. The general and specific in the emotive content of phraseological units in german and russian linguocultures are highlighted. Comparative analysis has shown that when uncovering cultural connotations, commentary on the figurative basis of phraseologisms plays an important role. The figurative-metaphorical component makes it possible to establish obvious interlanguage differences. The emotional manifestation of a sense of joy is objectified by different zoomorphic images. Different artifact components are found in the semantic structure of the phraseologisms studied. However, in German and Russian expressions, obvious points of contact are found in the external manifestation of joy. People behave loudly, actively, clapping their hands, jumping, dancing, hugging. The most typical and vivid manifestation of joy is laughter. The upward spatial movement is the same for both linguistic cultures: striving for the sky, jumping up to the ceiling. A positive emotion acquires a light shade. In both cultures it is described that a person glows, shines with joy. The results of the study provide an opportunity for a deep understanding of the national mentality, which is a necessary criterion in intercultural communication.
