Abstract

Russian Russian Phoneme Classes The article develops an unconventional view on the composition of the main classes of phonemes in the Russian language, presented in our article "On phoneme classes in the Russian language". Consonants, sonants, glides and vowels were considered as such classes. The purpose of this article is to highlight the functional zero background (sound) in the composition of glides and vowels. The functioning of the zero iota and the vocal zero in phonetic positions is substantiated. For the zero iota, such a position is the realization of the phoneme [j] before the vowel "and" – [`s] at the beginning of the word (hut, Hut), between the vowels before the unstressed vowel "and" (judges, piles, sheds). In the vowel class, the implementation of the phoneme [a] in special vocative forms such as WWII is presented as a functional zero! (Vova), People! (Luda). It is designated as a pa-sound [#]. The term "vocal zero", presented in the works of V. G. Rudelev, is considered not as a designation of the actual zero background (sound), but as a full-fledged independent vowel phoneme ("ep"), the functional background of which is the background [b]. It is characterized from the point of view of traditional phonetic features as a non-submerged vowel of the middle row and the middle rise. Phonologically, it is characterized by such acoustic signs as non-semblance, non-diffusiveness, non-compactness, low tone. The main difference between the phoneme [b] and the functional vocal zero [#] (pa-sound) is as follows; [b] is syllabic, and [#] is non–syllabic. The lack of perception of sound materiality due to the brevity of the pa-sound characterizes it as a functionally significant segment of the non-syllabic type. This determines the zero essence of the pa-sound and thereby distinguishes it from genuine vowels. The legitimacy of the allocation of functional zeros is due to the paradigmatic form of identifying these units in the system description of the sound system of the Russian language.
