Abstract

The purpose of this article is to the study of phraseological units of the English language objectifying the concept of “Horse.” The basic content of the article constitutes the analysis of cognitive models represented in the phraseological units of the English language with the concept “Horse.” Special attention is paid to the axiological, in other words, the evaluative component of the meaning of phraseological units with the concept under study. The article introduces the cognitive triad “concept – model – attribute” into scientific discourse. Phraseological units are considered in the article both as units of language and as units of speech – the analysis of the latter is based on the consideration of their use in fiction discourse. The research results contribute to the theory of cognitive linguistics, axiology, discourse analysis. The analysis showed that the studied units objectify different axiologically marked characteristic features, represented in the English language fiction discourse. Based on the study of phraseological units, the paper reveals the fact that the objectification of the studied phraseological units in the discourse of fiction is carried out unevenly, a number of units is used quite often, while others, on the contrary, are used very rarely by the authors of fiction, a significant number of phraseological units considered in the work with the basic component - the concept “Horse” has not been used at all in the English language works of fiction. Research implications. The results of the study contribute to the theory of cognitive linguistics, axiology, and discourse analysis. The results can be used in the study of phraseological units, aphorisms, maxims of different languages with different conceptual content. The phraseological units of the English language considered in this article, both as units of language and units of speech, objectify various characteristic meanings: stubbornness, slowness, hunger, haste. They are pejorative. The cultural load of phraseological units based on the concept “horse” is actively used by the authors to realize the evaluative potential of phraseological units for solving artistic problems.
