Abstract

The attractiveness and popularity of folklore genres, such as proverbs, significantly contributed to the fact that there has been extensive literature about them for a long time. However, this is the first time that the Persian proverbs on the topic of marriage were chosen as the subject of research. This work is intended to make this topic fully disclosed, touching on the most essential aspects of family and marital relations, the role of each spouse in the family, view of the Persian society on marriage and marital relations. This research aims to study the most commonly used Persian proverbs on the topic of marriage to identify the most important moral values of the Persian ethnos and to determine their specific character as a result of the interaction of history, culture and mentality from the point of view of the native speakers. The main material for writing the work was Persian dictionaries of proverbs. Proverbs were identified and systematized, which reveal a view on the meaning and value of marriage, on its predestination. An important part of the study was the study of male and female views on the choice of a life partner, the duties and responsibilities of each of the spouses, and the problem of marital relations. The result of this work was an opportunity to present a full picture of marriage and the relationship between spouses from the point of view of the Persian culture, starting with the choice of a life partner and ending with the death of one of the spouses, hence it is safe to say that this article is up to date and goal-oriented and might be an interest to researchers who are interested in the Persian culture while serving as the fundamentals for further comparative analyses.
