In the developing process of a preprocessor stage in the external finite-element approximations method, the symmetry recognizing was the one of the main tasks. The task was successfully solved but the recognizing algorithm had a low performance. A symmetry distance computing is the extremely time-consuming stage of the algorithm. A symmetry distance value describes the closeness of a shape to its symmetric copy. Such approach can be used not only for symmetric shapes. In the paper we consider the more efficient method of symmetry distance computing. This way allows reducing the time and resources costs of the recognizing algorithm.
