Abstract

Тhe article is devoted to translation errors made in 2020 during the synchronic translation of the political debates of US presidential candidates J. Biden and D. Trump. The relevance of the research is determined by the general need to identify the most diffi cult aspects of translating American political discourse, as well as the pragmatic characteristics of translated texts in the fi eld of political communication. The analysis of the studied material showed that the mistakes of translators can be divided into several types: lexical and grammatical errors and errors related to ignorance of culturally specifi c concepts, incorrect translation of ethnic nominations and proper names, sеt expressions and slangisms. The article provides a qualitative and quantitative analysis of translation errors. Translators often have diffi culty communicating specifi c terminology and realities correctly. Incorrect literal translation of terms, sеt expressions, and jargon occurs in almost 40 % of the total number of errors. These statistics emphasize the importance of detailed knowledge of specialized political vocabulary to prevent incorrect translations.
