Economic basis of VDI deployment in institutions of higher education IT-infrastructure

Abstract

Purpose: the article is devoted to the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) deployment in а University IT-infrastructure. It includes preliminary evaluation of VDI effectiveness. Discussion: оrganizations deploying VMware Horizon View analysis of organizations adopting a centralized virtual desktop (CVD) computing environment (also known as virtual desktop infrastructure [VDI]) with the use of VMware Horizon View shows that investment in the technology can result in significant business value with very high return on investment (ROI) of over 300%. Organizations deploying VMware Horizon View realized annual savings of the savings came from lower device and IT staff support costs compared with organizations using unmanaged PCs. Results: the perspectives for VDI solution in the University have been analyzed, the licensing is examined. Monthly costs for the University's IT have been compared for the classic and VDI solution for the project period 3 years
