Penetration indexes of telephone communication and internet per countries
Abstract
Purpose: calculation of two country penetration indices of cellular, wireline (fixed) telephone communications and the Internet for 186 countries based on 2017 data and compilation of their rating. Discussion: during the study, the dynamics of changes in the indices under consideration and the factors that determine such changes are analyzed. Countries, depending on the magnitude of the indices, are divided into three groups: countries with a high penetration index, countries with a medium penetration index and countries with a low penetration index. This division into groups reflects the level of telecommunications development in the countries under consideration. Results: as a result of the study, the place of countries was determined in accordance with the value of the fixed penetration indices of cellular, wire (fixed-line) telephone communications and the Internet. Particular attention is paid to the need to solve the problem of «information gap» between countries. The causes of changes in penetration indices in the global economy, in general, and for individual countries, in particular, are identified.
