We have got used to the fact that this system is applied by different business structures to increase the efficiency of their activity and we can hardly imagine that this system can be used in any other sphere of activity, not connected with business. Can the system of lean production be used in this sphere? Results: we have studied one of the processes of educational activities of students and tried to analyze if it is possible to optimize it, applying the technology and instruments of the system of lean production. The activity of students, preparing the scientific work, was chosen as a process. As the result of making a network diagram of the process, we could determine that it is possible to make it shorter and more efficient. The article gives the recommendations to increase the efficiency of the given process with the help of the instruments of the system of lean production.
