Abstract

Purpose: the article presents the author's view on the state of the tourism industry during the pandemic and its impact on further development. COVID-19 has caused serious damage to all sectors of the economy, but tourism is considered one of the most affected. The government has taken all possible support measures to save the industry. But the situation is getting worse every day. At the beginning of 2022, there is an active exit from the market of tour operators, despite the opening of promising tourist destinations and the resumption of work. There is not only a Russian, but also a global trend, which allows us to consider the problem of the current state of tourism as a «pandemic of the tourism economy». The study of aspects of this new phenomenon has become the purpose of this study. Discussion: the situation in tourism is also reflected in the overall level of GDP, worsening the situation of employment and wages. Habitual effective investment strategies are subject to constant changes and are aimed at maintaining the current state of tourism enterprises. Results: demand is reoriented towards domestic tourism, both due to the lack of alternative destinations, and due to the post-COVID recovery.
