Abstract

In this article the main derivational models of the elementary-based two-syllabl e nouns with the second component -vod are elicited and described, they are designed for future computer modelling of Russian compounds. The analyzed units are derived from the sentences with word combinations of the verb with the dependent noun in the accusative case or in the function of a direct object. The subject of an action doesn’t have a formal expression in the structure of a compound, only in dictionary defi nitions. The semantics and lexical compatibility of the verbs vesti-vodit' infl uence the meaning and the form of the compounds under examination. The second component -vod is most frequently (77 %) derived from the verb vodit' with the meaning ‘(raz)vod it', to grow up animals and plants’, more rarely (12 and 8,5 % correspondingly) – vesti, having the meaning ‘to direct the activity of somebody, something’ or ‘(pro)vodit' in a certain direction’ and very rarely (2,5 %) – vesti / vodit', synonymous in the meaning ‘to drive a vehicle’. In the fi rst group composites are formed by the model “Who (raz)vodit what” – ‘somebody something-vod’ and “Who (raz)vodit whom” – ‘somebody somebody-vod”. In the second group – “Who vedyot what” > ‘somebody something-vod’ and ‘Who vedyot whom” – ‘somebody somebody-vod’, and also “What (pro)vodit what” – ‘something something-vod’. The compound nouns of the third group are formed by the mod el “Who vodit what” – ‘somebody something-vod’, “What vodit what” – ‘something something-vod’. The variety of derivational models of compound nouns with the second element -vod can be explained by the polysemy and respectively diff erent lexical compatibility of the generating verbs vesti-vodit’, which infl uences the exterior and interior forms of composites.
