The evolution of agricultural transformations in Nigeria
Abstract
Purpose: to analyze the evolution of Nigeria’s agricultural policy, consider the chronology of the actions of the Government of Nigeria regarding the development of agricultural policies, assess the results of the introduction of reforms in the field of agriculture. Discussion: an assessment of the state of agriculture in the country and the related food problem and a review of the attempts of the state to regulate the production of agricultural products. Results: it is demonstrated that Nigeria’s food security has been at a critical level since the 1970s, when the oil boom began and the country’s economy lost its agrarian orientation. The article substantiates the necessity of returning Nigeria to the track of developing agriculture in order to provide the population with national food production. The author systematizes the attempts to regulate the agricultural sector since over more than half a century ago and until present.
