Disintegration processes in COMECON: economic and historical analysis and lessons
Abstract
Purpose: аcceleration of disintegration processes is becoming a characteristic tendency of the current stage of development. This trend is accompanied by reintegration manifestations and processes – which reflects the cyclical nature of integration. Disintegration manifestations – latent and explicit, delayed and accelerated, large-scale and local – are observed all over the world and in one way or another are characteristic of all integration associations. The European region has rightfully become one of the reference regions in terms of research opportunities, periodization and building models of integration and disintegration processes. Discussion: One of the largest disintegration events here was the collapse of the largest socialist integration – the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA). And although the CMEA united the states of other continents, its economic development was determined by the economies of the member states of Eastern Europe. In recent years, there has been an increase in the interest of the scientific community in the problem of disintegration processes in the CMEA. This is due to the possibility of learning lessons and shaping an economic policy of building integration relations based on taking into account the effective and unsuccessful decisions of the subjects involved in the creation and development of CMEA. The article examines the economic reasons for the disintegration processes in the CMEA. Results: The author comes to the conclusion that the CMEA experience combined with market mechanisms for regulating integration relations can become a significant condition for increasing the efficiency of the development of the integration processes of the EAEU and other subjects of international economic relations.
