The vector measurement of regional economic space differentiation processes

Abstract

Purpose: the study of possibilities of econometric identification of emer­ging vectors of economic development of local territories of the region, determining internal factors of formation and development of heterogeneity of economic space of the region. Discussion: the study used the method of Euclidean distances for the study of regional economic space. On the basis of official statistics in the context of the region and the municipalities forming it, the emerging vectors of economic development of local territories are determined. The territories of the region were typologized in terms of their impact on the dynamics of the development of the regional economy. Results: the study identified four types of territories: economically developed territories with high rates of economic development, economically developed territories with declining rates of economic development, regressing territories with slowing rates of economic regression (recovering territories), regressing territories with increasing rates of regression (degrading territories). The economic development of the local territories of the region is characterized by a pronounced orientation or vector of their development. The preservation of such vectors of economic development is determined by the peculiarities of local economies, the system of internal and external factors of economic development of territories. The continued longterm vector of economic development of the local territories of the region determines spatial differences in the development of the regional economy, becomes a factor in the differentiation of the economic space of the region. At the same time, timely diagnosis and assessment of local territory development vectors can serve as the basis for the development of a regional policy for equalizing economic space.
