Analysis of the passenger air transportation market of the Republic of Tajikistan: trends and prospects of post-crisis development

Abstract

Purpose: the aim of the study is to present a model of the long-term development of Dushanbe Airport (Republic of Tajikistan) in the context of overcoming the crisis caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dushanbe Airport plays a key role in the structure of the national passenger air transportation market of the Republic of Tajikistan, being the leading passenger airport of the state and a major regional air transport hub. Discussion: оn the basis of the analysis of the route network of the airport of Dushanbe, and analysis activities of the leading national airlines «Somon Air» and «Tajik Air», which includes in its structure the analysis of the route network and analysis of its fleet of aircraft carriers, was presented a conclusion on the future development of the passenger market of the Republic of Tajikistan. Results. The result of the study is the construction of a model for the long-term development of the route network of Dushanbe Airport. In the context of overcoming the macroeconomic crisis of 2020, the most promising development scenario is to increase the number of destinations of budget and regional airlines. As a possible scenario for the development of the route network of Dushanbe Airport, the model of development of the directions of low-cost airlines «Fly Arystan» (Republic of Kazakhstan), «Buta Airways» (Republic of Azerbaijan), «Wizz Air» (Hungary), as well as the Russian regional airline «Azimut"is presented.
