Genesis of quality management

Abstract

Importance: the subject of the research is the issues of the phased origin and development of quality management, which proves the need for planning a long-term strategy for a modern company. Purpose: the article is devoted to the origin and development of quality management, as well as the specifics of the application of quality management methods in modern companies. Research design: using the historical-logical, systemic and structural-functional analysis, the article highlights and reveals the features of the origin and subsequent development of quality management, starting from antiquity and the Middle Ages, when quality was created, controlled and managed by the master himself. It is determined that the first important milestone in the history of quality management is the industrial revolution of the XVIII-XIX centuries. In the twentieth century the importance of technical control has increased, which has become a separate component of the production process. A great impetus for progress in the development of quality management was the Second World War. In the second half of the 1950 s quality management principles developed during the war were extended to the civilian sector. In the 1970-1980 s the role of the human factor has also become a quality issue, and quality management has spread to the whole company. In the 1990s quality planning has been developed due to the capabilities of the company and the requirements of consumers. Results: the author proposed a phased development of quality management: 1) self-control of the artisan; 2) organization of employees; 3) technical control; 4) statistical methods; 5) standardization of the procedure; 6) quality management throughout the company. The reasons for the significant popularization of quality management in Japan are substantiated. The content of the main methods of quality management in a modern company is disclosed: 1) management by internal standards; 2)management in accordance with ISO standards; 3)TQC or TQM. It has been proven that statistics is an important quality management tool at any level.
