Abstract

In this paper, the author analyzes the trends in the insurance market of the Southern Federal District of Russia as an important indicator of business activity in the region. Attention is drawn to the fall in premiums received by insurance companies in 2010. The author explains the need for state intervention in economic development of the district. Such interference can be identified with the use of strategic marketing, in terms of improving Russia’s image in the international arena and with the approaching in 2014, the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
