The separation of sulfate-chloride mixtures by electrodialysis with anion-exchange sorbed pectin membranes
Abstract
The sorption of polyelectrolytes on the surface of ion exchange membranes
creates electrostatic potential barrier for migrating counterions. The sorption of containing carboxyl
groups pectin on the surface of anion-exchange membranes leads to the redistribution of differently charged
ions in the electrodialysis. The model of transition differently charged counterions through the charged surface
of absorbed polyelectrolyte ion exchange membrane was offered. The adequacy of the proposed model in the
process of electrodialysis using the system "anion-exchange membrane MA-40 – pectin - solution of sulphates
and chlorides" has been proven. The ratio of transport numbers sulfate / chloride with decreasing pH is reduced
. In alkaline containing pectat system the conversion of selectivity in favor of singly charged counterion was
found.
