Abstract

The formation of an effective policy in the regions of Russia requires the identification of strengths and weaknesses of socio-economic development. One of the methods of their identification is the method of analogies, which involves the comparison of data characterizing the main parameters of the economy and social sphere of regions with similar climatic conditions and similar geographical location (reference regions). These regions include Krasnodar, Primorsky, Stavropol, Kaliningrad and Sakhalin regions. A comparative analysis was carried out on the indicators characterizing the demographic situation; resource availability; development of basic sectors of the economy and the social sphere. The analysis identified the following characteristics of the Republic of Crimea: demographic processes are expressed weakly positive results (like most of referent-tion regions); resource security because of its significant growth, exceeded the level in neighboring regions of the reference group; the manufacturing wausa industry, production and distribution of electricity, gas and water; housing; retail trade turnover; investments in fixed assets, despite high growth rates, retain the lowest values in the entire reference group.
