Abstract

The purpose of the study is to offer a study of the history of geographical discoveries in higher education institutions based on an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates generalised didactic materials of natural, social and technical sciences. Materials and methods. Based on the author's methodological experience, the possibilities of forming scientific knowledge are demonstrated by studying geographical discoveries, their prerequisites, results and influence on world history and science. Results and discussion. The use of an interdisciplinary approach allows students to form a comprehensive idea of the impact of geographical discoveries on the development of science and technology, as well as the geographical picture of the world and the largest centres of the world economy. Conclusions. The use of the interdisciplinary approach allows not only to see the meta-disciplinary nature of geographical discoveries, but also to use a rich methodological toolkit when studying them, contributing to increasing the motivation and cognitive interest of students.
