In the Russian language, there are not only borrowed lexical units (foreign words), but also interna tional morphemes (affi xes) involved in word formation that are abstracted from them. There are two stages that loan words can go through: phonographic and morphological assimilation. The fi rst occurs during the auditory or visual perception of a lexical unit. At the second stage, certain grammatical characteristics peculiar to the language into which the word was borrowed are already attributed to it. The problem of the inarticulability of borrowed bases and how they become part of the Russian word-formation system in the status of a radix is also raised. The affi xation system of the Russian language consists of several subsystems interacting with each other, among which there are the indigenous and international subsystems, the elements of which will be discussed in this article. The authors aim to describe the joint work of these two subsystems. The most interesting are deriva tives from Russian roots using the international suffi xes -ist, -ism, which form the subject of the study. The object of the research is fi fty-fi ve volumes of the “Complete Works” of V. I. Lenin with a total volume of 4,504,182 word usage. After lemmatization (bringing words to their initial form) of all analyzed texts generated by a specifi c personality and obtaining the frequency dictionary of V. I. Lenin’s language, the necessary lexical units were extracted from it, which contained the international suffi xes -ist and ism (having Greek-Latin origin), as well as Russian roots. Thus, the results of the frequency of use of linguistic units of various parts of speech (nouns and adjectives) were obtained. The results were presented in the form of graphical visualization.
