Strategic management of the business activities of an organisation: conceptual aspects

Abstract

Subject. Paradigm changes in the Russian business environment necessitate the search for methods and models of organising business activities to achieve the desired results. 
Objectives. To develop a conceptual approach to the analysis of strategic management, focused on the study of institutional mechanisms of transformation of business activities of an organisation and the formation of sustainable competitive advantages.
Methodology. In the study, we applied constructive logic as an interdisciplinary approach, the evolutionary-institutional method, as well as comparative and logical analysis.
Results. The existing vector of scientific search in the field of strategic management relies on theoretical descriptions based on different versions of the institutional approach, which determines the logic of the evolution of theoretical concepts and the prospects for studying the mechanisms of sustainable development of business activities of organisations. The paradigmatic limitation of the emerging conceptual approaches is that they are focused on the study of exogenous processes of forming strategic advantages for organisations. In order to change the paradigm of the approach to strategic management, we proposed to consider the economic interactions between actors in the internal and external environment of an organisation as carriers of economic culture and its values. The chosen research perspective is aimed at the innovative transformation of the value-based institutional format of an organisation’s business model, taking into account the specifics of creating strategic advantages at different stages of its life cycle.
Conclusions. The proposed conceptual approach allows, by changing the research paradigm, to prepare analytical tools and recommendations for the development of strategic advantages for organisations, taking into account the specifics of their business activities.
