Abstract

Тhe article analyzes secondary toponymic nominations, develops the concept of a universal invariant metonymic model, and describes the options for its use in media texts on various topics by diff erent categories of toponyms. Conclusions are drawn about the selectivity of variants of metonymic models depending on the cate gory of the toponym and the subject of the media text, and about the weakening of the onymic meaning in the metonymic use of toponyms, as well as about the complete deonymization of toponyms in metaphorical use.
