Indirect speech is able, to a certain extent, to reanimate the “live” speech of the heroes of a work of art in a “possible world” that is created by the writer's pen when it appeals to the sound memory of readers – native speakers of the Russian language – through a comparative construction, while entering into parallel with the adverb as a way of speech action in the main sentence. The activation of speech memory allows you to speculatively express the tone of speech of a fictional character, the volume, tempo, and clarity of its reproduction. Comparative construction acts as sound reminiscences, revealing the content of the “audio script” implied by the adverb, which without the help of comparative structure would remain a “thing in itself”. Comparison revives in the memory of the recipient of a literary text a “sound picture”, similar to it, once inscribed in his life and communicative experience. A person does not realize that this process is taking place, however, a figurative comparison implicitly dictates the awareness of this. Of particular interest are the syntactic structures and morphological features of linguistic means that form sentences of the above type.
